MacBook Air versus MacBook Pro: Which Mac M1 laptop should you get in 2022?

Before, deciding which MacBook to pick between the MacBook Air and MacBook Pro was easy. You would get the Air if you needed something basic, and the Pro is you wanted something with a lot more power, which is especially useful in 3D rendering and video editing. However, since the M1 chip came into play, the basic MacBook Air has become a beast. Now, picking between the two has become even harder. On top of that, there are also 3 MacBook Pro models to choose from; the 13, 14, and 16-inch.

If you are unsure of which machine to get, you can look for a place that offers either the Air or Mac Pro for rent and get a feel of how they work. Once you are done, you can use these pointers to find the best MacBook for you.

MacBook Air

Apples MacBook Air (M1) is the most affordable option here. However, unlike its predecessors, it offers better performance thanks to the Integrated 7-core M1 GPU and the Integrated 8-core GPU rivaling the MacBook Pro at times. Other key specs include:

·         A long battery life

·         A 13-inch display

·         High-quality keyboard and touchpad.

·         RAM 8 GB/16 GB

·         Storage 256GB to 2TB

·         A sleek design

·         However, its port selection is limited to 2 USB Type C ports.

This device is ideal if you want the most affordable and slimmest Mac, need something powerful for everyday tasks and some occasional heavy-duty work, and you like a quiet laptop. Unlike the rest, this model is the only one without a fan inside, so it won't sound like a jet engine while under a heavy workload.

MacBook Pro Series

This model is the workhorse of the two. Often renowned for its ability to handle heavy-duty work, the inclusion of the M1 chip has only increased its performance. The MacBook Pro is available in 3 different models: the 13, 14, and 16-inch Macs. Some key specs include:

·         Seriously powerful M! Pro CPU

·         High-quality Retina display,

·         Extended battery life

·         Luxurious keyboard and touchpad

·         Improved webcam

·         More port connections

·         Powerful components

The MacBook Pro does have a few drawbacks, such as the price tag. These models are quite pricey, with the 13-inch retailing at $1299 and while the 16-inch costs $2499. The 13-inch MacBook Pro is great if you are looking for a more powerful computer than a MacBook Air but won't cost you a fortune, and you want a MacBook without the notch.

Go for the 14 or 16-inch if you want the most powerful MacBook Pro there is. However, you will have to pay a pretty penny for it. Additionally, these models also have more ports and the best displays and webcams you can get on any Mac.

Both of these computers are great and offer good performance. However, the Mac you choose will depend on which of these features you value the most.

For heavy-duty performance and speed, the MacBook Pro beats the Air, hands down.

For portability, go for the Air since it weighs about 2.8lbs while the Pro weighs anywhere between 3 - 4.8lbs. If you want ports, slimmer bezels, a higher quality display, longer battery life, better audio quality, go Pro. Nevertheless, the Air is a great everyday laptop that offers you value at a great price.
